Women Trafficking in Assam: A Game Theoretical Perspective and RANI

Woman trafficking is a social epidemic which has spread towards the North-Eastern (Indian) state of Assam in recent times and affected many women at an alarming rate. The ¿germs¿ for these diseases are the traffickers and the conducive environment for the spread of this disease is constituted by unaware women with poor socio-economic background. This work is an attempt to operate upon the problem with the scalpel of game theory under the light of primary survey findings to enrich the understanding on the topic and also to locate the infected parts in the socio-economic structure of the society including police and judicial mechanism. In order to meaningfully prevent the spread of this socio-economic epidemic it is important to identify the relatively more vulnerable areas. With this insight, an effort of devising a new index (RANI) to measure the degree of vulnerability of women across various districts of Assam is expected to add a new dimension in containing further spread of the problem and assigning long deserved emphasis on prevention too.
