Women Empowerment through SHGs and Microfinance

A society, economy and country can grow only if women residing in those places, are empowered. India is predominantly a patriarchy society, where there is a greater need of women empowerment which not only helps the country at macro level but family at micro level. Women empowerment can be achieved in different ways and one such way is with the help of SHG (Self-Help Groups) and microfinance. SHGs and microfinance helps in bringing financial independence to the women as a way to achieve women empowerment. The book highlights how income, saving and expenditure of members have changed after joining SHGs. It also focuses on the impact of SHGs-bank linkage programme on the socio-economic status of the members. The results are very encouraging as these SHGs have been able to improve the income and savings of the members, thereby empowering women, financially. The study holds its importance for a country like India.
