Wohnen neu denken – den Wandel gestalten

These days, much thought is being given to housing: economically, because there is an acute shortage of affordable housing; sociologically, because our society is changing rapidly; politically, because the allocation of space raises questions of justice; ecologically, because housing requires resources and generates emissions—and, of course, architecturally as well. This edited volume examines the processes of transformation in housing from a transdisciplinary perspective and focuses on two areas of tension: “Adequacy and Entitlement Mentality” raises questions about affordable construction, new standards, and sufficiency-oriented strategies. “Individuality and Community” looks at societal challenges, collective approaches to thinking and problem-solving, as well as alternative housing models. Enriched with expert interviews, project examples, and concise facts, the publication outlines ways to rethink housing and translate changing practices into action.
