What Makes a Good Teacher

Each and every teacher has the potential to transform the future for every one of our children, and therefore create the future society we desire. If you could identify what it is that makes the good teachers good; what it is that makes you remember that powerful teacher - learner relationship that positively influenced your whole life, would you want to know what caused that to happen, so we as a society could reproduce those transformational relationships rather than leaving it to chance? Of course you would. This book attempts to identify what it is that makes those extra special teachers so special, and how they are influenced by relationships within their immediate school, and within the wider system of New Zealand education. This research inquired into the complex practice of Technology educators in the Greater Christchurch region as they attempted to lead innovative, respectful, personalised, and disruptive, progressive pedagogies, that benefited each learner who was fortunate enough to be allocated to their class.
