What is Drug and Substance Abuse

This book highlights the causes, effects and mitigation measures of drug and substance abuse in our society. The abuse of drugs and alcohol is associated with a range of health and social problems, including road traffic fatalities, industrial and domestic accidents, suicides, sports and leisure injuries, violence and reduced productivity in the work place. Many families whose spouses or children engage in alcoholism or drug and substance abuse have been left economically challenged, socially alienated and the family unit disengaged. Both the government and society at large have a critical role to play in reducing alcohol related harm such as, premature deaths due to drowning, crashes, falls, suicides, fires, accidents and homicides. Communities with high rate of poverty, unemployment and limited access to health, recreational and other services are particularly vulnerable to alcohol related social problems. The book has been humbly written to help society overcome the stigma of drug and substance abuse through learning and coping mechanisms. It¿s an endeavor to equip any affected person to rebuild the drug menace and its underlying causes with adequate knowledge.
