Web Mining to Generate Multimodal Learning Materials for Children

Students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities have difficulties in reading and understanding even simple stories or plain texts. Instructors use different techniques in order to explain the texts to them, which includes reading the text several times, showing images about the objects and characters of the story. Different research suggests that use of visuals elements and technology in teaching helps children to learn effectively and quickly. Developing an intelligent system that takes plain text (for example children stories) as an input and generates the corresponding multimedia items and finds other similar stories from the Internet will be of great help to both teachers and students. This proposed system will help children understand the text stories.
