Violence Affecting Tourism

Colombia is a country rich in natural resources, biodiversity and has a very wide tourism offering. Despite this; Colombia is not considered as a potential tourism destination due to the poor image of the country around the world. During the last several years the situation has slowly changed due to government policy however; it seems that erasing the bad image produced from five decades of violence and social problems is not an easy task.This book seeks to communicate and explore new ideas and strategies than can be applied by the Colombian government in order to change the tourism image of Colombia around the world. To find a solution to a problem it is of paramount importance to find the root cause. This book goes on a journey through Colombiäs history of violence, which will give the reader an in depth understanding of the main reasons of this violence and its effect on tourism sector. This book collates the strategies that the Colombian government is currently applying to change the image of the country, what literature reviews recommend and also what other countries in similar situations in the past have done to overcome the tourism crisis provoked by violence.
