Argumentation is not only used in politics – persuasion mechanisms are also used in everyday life. In discourse, reasons are cited and defended to persuade the other party to the conviction that one holds oneself. This work argues that the Christian faith is a position for which reasons can be communicated and made plausible not only within a religious community but also to interlocutors of other worldviews or from the spectrum of different sciences. The study takes a primarily communication-theoretical-practical approach, bringing apologetics into conversation with discourse theory (Habermas) and speech act theory (Austin/Searle) from the secular side and the guiding concept of gospel communication from the theological side. This interdisciplinary work offers a plea for interculturally oriented, contemporary apologetics.
