Training Teachers for polytechnical Colleges in Zimbabwe

The Preparation of Technical Teachers for Polytechnical Colleges in Zimbabwe' is a 'must read' piece of academic work. It portrays the period immediately after independence as characterised by a critical shortage of qualified and experienced human resource, especially in the technical and engineering fields. This was as a result of the volitional exodus of staff from technical and polytechnical institutions in the country. Filling the manpower gaps so created through expatriate programmes proved unsatisfactory as these were temporary measures. The country needed a permanent solution to its manpower shortage challenges. The expansion of technical education programmes in the country seemed to proffer a better and lasting solution to the problem.This is the route taken by the newly elected government.It embarked on a comprehensive technical education programme including a section on the preparation of technical teachers whose brief was to produce technical teachers qualified in technical / engineering content and pedagogy. Graduates from this programme would be appointed to the country's technical and polytechnical institutions where the country had suffered serious volitional exodus
