Tissue Engineering-A Substitute Prototype for Periodontal Regeneration

The concept used in tissue engineering is that the repair and regeneration of biological tissues can be guided through application and control of cells, matrices, and chemoactive proteins. Tissue engineering is a novel and highly exiting field of research by which it may be possible to repair damaged tissues or even create replacement organs. Thus, it is a field of functional restoration of tissue structure and physiology for impaired or damaged tissues because of cancer, disease and trauma. It is said that it can help in the regeneration of enamel and dentin to restore the lost tooth structure in future. Thus Tissue engineering holds the promise of solution to a number of compelling clinical problems in dentistry that have not been adequately addressed.This book focuses on tissue engineering to restore periodontal tissue function through the delivery of stem cells, bioactive molecules, or synthetic tissue constructs engineered in the laboratory.
