The vagaries of hospital logistics

Although universally regarded as an essential component of healthcare facilities, hospital logistics is terra incognita in Morocco, argues Jaouad El Kaissouni following a detailed study of two Moroccan hospitals. Based on meticulous field surveys, the book reveals the main transformations in the Moroccan healthcare context in terms of what healthcare represents in the eyes of users and hospital staff alike. The study succeeded in pinpointing the shortcomings of the hospital logistics management system in the two hospitals, and consequently of the hospital as a whole, with regard to the systemic management approach, in terms of stock management, and control. The author develops his analysis of the existing situation and the rising expectations of vulnerable users, the "solidly weak" link in the hospital chain. Such an analysis rigorously calls for the articulation of hospital organizations to the immediate framework of their environment, whose interactions between its components are so diverse and complex.
