The use of videos in reducing pain during immunisations

The present study aimed to verify the acceptability of the videos, produced in the audiovisual department of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, with audio available in Portuguese, which show pain reduction interventions in children up to one year of age. This is a survey study applied to parents attending a UBS in the municipality of Pelotas, from 15 to 26 January 2018, with a convenience sample of 20 parents. The results showed that parents were unaware of the interventions before watching the videos and afterwards reported the intention to use or recommend breastfeeding (95%). The majority of participants found the videos useful and beneficial, easy to apply and understand. The results suggest that the use of videos, targeted at parents and/or caregivers, to disseminate evidence on pain management is feasible and promising as a knowledge translation strategy. Further studies are needed to evaluate the effects of this parent-targeted intervention.
