The State and Nation-Building in Nigeria, 1960-2007: An Analysis

Since independence in 1960, Nigeria has been battling with various nation-building challenges. The inability of the country's rulers to resolve these challenges made it impossible for Nigeria to fully realize its potential. The book analyzes the different mechanisms used by Nigeria's rulers to tackle the country's nation-building challenges between 1960 and 2007. Each of the thirteen chapters in the book deal with different topical issues in the evolution of the Nigerian state. This book is both a chronological analysis of political development in Nigeria and the analysis of the different programmes, concepts and initiatives contained in the mechanisms used by the country's different rulers to tackle its nation-building challenges. The book will be relevant to students, policy-makers, academics and the general public interested in understanding those factors that have made it impossible for Nigeria to emerge as a viable, functional and cohesive nation.
