The Role of Indigenous Institutions in Local Governance

Over the past few decades, it has become clear that Government is not the sole solution giver to the complex and compounded problem of the society. Thus, the rise of the concept of Governance clearly indicated the need for the involvement of other actors in the decision making process to solve the communities common problem. Indigenous institution is one of such actors that can contribute greatly in the process of solving the problem of the society. However, little study has been conducted on the role of indigenous institutions in local Governance to decide where and how they can be involved in local decision making process. Thus, the book clearly showed the Role of indigenous institutions especially Gada system in local governance. Gada system plays a great role in resource governance and conflict resolution in Borana.The book is especially useful for the policy makers to consider and recognize the role of indigenous institution in local governance,in addition to using as a reference for other researchers.
