The Price of Social Media Addiction

Using technology in communication has become a necessity; it is now a part of our lives. People communicate through emails, faxes, mobile phones, texting services, video conferencing, video chat rooms and social networking sites. Social Networking Site (SNS)as the name itself suggests, is a basic platform for connecting people with different cultures, societies and different types of people living all over the world. Social networking sites leave positive as well as negative impact on college student. Now a day, social networking sites become an indispensible part of college student's life and influence their academic achievement and mental health as well. The present study was conducted to study the relationship of SNS Addictive Behavior with Academic Achievement and Mental Health of under graduate students . Various dimensions for this study like Gender, Geographical Area, Social Class and Stream were selected as important parameters. For this two phase study, survey method and purposive sampling was used for collection of data. Correlational analysis of data was done by Pearson's Product Momentum Method. Academic achievement was measured from their past records and self-made questionnaires were used to measure SNS Addictive Behavior and Standardized Mental Health Battery for the Mental Health of students under various criteria.
