The Managuaco grassland bird assemblage, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba

The results of the study of the bird community present in the pastures of the Livestock Enterprise of Managuaco, Province of Sancti Spíritus are presented. The research uses the method of point counts from circular plots. The ornithocenosis is evaluated in the two seasons of the year: rainy and dry. The taxonomic composition of the community is analyzed, the most general indices of biodiversity are calculated, and the trophic guilds are investigated. Significant differences are observed between samples corresponding to different stages of establishment of the silvopastoral systems studied and between seasons of the year. It is demonstrated that pastures surrounded by live fences contribute to the conservation of the biodiversity of wild birds in Cuba.
