The Impact of Unemployed Youth on National Development

The youth population is conceded as one of the assets for national development. However, globally, youth unemployment is a serious issue which impacted to slow down the development of the country. Even comes to the youth population in the developing world, they have very limited opportunities in their countries to be employed. Especially, in the South Asian Region, the highest youth unemployment rate has been reordered from Sri Lanka since 2017. Therefore, from this book, trying to find out the impact of youth unemployment to the national development from the Sri Lankan perspective based on the vicious circle of the poverty gap theory. The study uses time-series data from 1990 to 2018 and a survey of unemployed graduates at the age of 24-29. The Granger Causality test was conducted to capture the linkages between the variables of the study and the results support one-way causality in the poverty gap.
