Beschreibung

Academic Paper from the year 2017 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Development Politics, Uganda Christian University, language: English, abstract: The paper analyses the human rights based approach to development management. It traces its development from the industrial era the basic needs approach and structural adjustments to the current status. It is basically a desk research that sought to find out what the human rights approach to development is - its application, challenges and benefits.

The approach is the brain child of the UN agencies that sought to have development with a human face. The human rights based approach traces its origins in the principles of human rights. It is from these that basic tenets of the approach are participation, inclusion and fulfilling obligation. These rotate around two basic stake holders ¿the duty bearers and rights holders. From the studies done it is noted that though the approach is new and has some challenges, it still sets a new face towards development management.

It has further found that a good number of countries and development cooperations do not necessarily apply all the human rights principles to the development projects. This is human rights perspectives to development as opposed to human rights based approach to development, which perspective marks the first step towards a full blown implementation of the human rights approach to development management.
