It is located in the nation's capital, Addis Ababa, near the graduate school of Addis Ababa University. It proliferated as the only organized museum in the state. It hosts a variety of collections ranging from fossil remains to ethnographic collections. it is the most visited museum,in the country, both by domestic and international tourists.
