The emphasis was to validate whether leachate contains pathogens against the common notion related to non-pathogenic potential of leachate. The use of chlorine was looked upon as a means of inactivation of bacterial pathogens and the effect of chlorine dosage, and contact time was studied on the inactivation pattern and formation of chlorination by products.
