The Disastrous Coast of Bengal

The Bengal coastal landscape is highly sensitive and vulnerable to any change in its hydro-geomorphic environment. Frequent cyclonic depressions, flash flood, rise in sea level temperature, interrupted rainfall, tidal ingression, ground water contamination has been promoting sensitivity and resilience of the coast that often lead to disaster. Complex changes in magnitude of wave, human behaviour and culture has determined the scale of impact of such disasters over time. I hope this book will reveal new scope and possibilities to the scholars, planners and resource users for their better understanding of coastal disasters particularly when they will travel to the disastrous coast.
