THE CHOICE OF DELIVERY ROUTE: AN ETHICAL CHOICE

Childbirth is a natural human experience, preceded by a pregnancy that is regularly monitored by health personnel, namely the gynaecologist and/or midwife. This physiological phenomenon is universally burdened by an over-medicalization motivated by the fight against perinatal morbidity and mortality. This over-medicalization no longer leaves room for the voice of the main person concerned, the pregnant woman, and can thus be the source of a negative experience of childbirth. As for the health personnel, they find themselves confronted with the choice of the delivery method for every birth. And the choice is based, according to the current perception, on a purely medical rationality based on the evaluation of the risks of each option.After a contextualization of the birth process in the world but also in Tunisia, and taking into account the results of a preliminary investigation, we discussed the free choice of the way of delivery by approaching the principles of bioethical reasoning.
