Energy availability in an affordable and environmentally benign form is key to achieving sustainable development and avoiding the worst consequences of climate change. Wind energy is the energy source that readily and effectively meets this goal. Nearly half of Africa's population does not have access to energy, and about 17% don't have access to the clean cooking solution. To compound the access gap, those that have it don't get a reliable supply of electricity owing to a variety of factors including them is not enough generation to meet the growing demand from the increasing population. Nevertheless, the continent has the technical and theoretical potential to generate wind energy from the continent, the wind speed across the continent is over 6m/s required for utility-scale wind farm development.
