"The Adventures of Dewey, the Alien" is the first tale in a trilogy by Marshall Lefferts.

Professor Nate Johnston is a Human entomologist, conducting research in the Amazon Rainforest. There, he unexpectedly meets an Extraterrestrial explorer (who will eventually come to be named "Dewey" by his new Human friend). At first, they are most apprehensive of each other and it almost proves fatal for Professor Johnston. But after some very tense moments, they become enchanted with each other and decide to go on a little adventure, galivanting about the Milky Way in Dewey's spaceship...only to get into more trouble than they ever bargained for. Their time together is short, but their unique, intergalactic friendship is sealed forever by the experiences they share, and in a cliff-hanger ending it is obvious that more interaction between Humans and Aliens is on the horizon.
