TEXTBOOK ON ROOT CANNAL IRIGANTS

The field of endodontics is rapidly changing with technological advances based on sound scientific research. A sterile endodontic canal is the corner stone of successful treatment of infected root canals. It will facilitate ease in obturation and result in less endodontic failures and complications. Hence the search for an ideal root canal irrigant which will completely eliminate endodontic pathogens from the root canal is one of the primary goals of endodontics. Considering the various factors that affect irrigant efficacy and not withstanding its potential disadvantages, NaOCl at (2.25% - 5.25%) seems to be the most preferred irrigant. Its action can further be improved by using it in combination with either H 2 O 2 or chelating agents or ultrasonic delivery modes. Finally any root canal irrigant should be used properly under rubber-dam isolation.
