Temporomandibular Joint disorders and its management

The term temporomandibular disorders(TMDs)is a collective term involving a number of clinical problems that effect the masticatory muscles,the temporomandibularjoints(TMJs) and teeth,and asscociated structuresWith advancement of imaging techniques it has become posible to make an accurate diagnosis of the TMD.Treatment approach towards the TMDs could be multidisciplinary which includes,Supportive therapy,that gives only symptomatic relief,occlusal equiblration,that removes any defective tooth contacts that prevent the TMJ from normal physiologic fuctioning ,Occlusal appliance therapy,that itself does not cure the disorder rather it helps the TMJ in acquiring most comfortable position in the joint space,followed by definitive prosthodontic treatment
