Teaching Practice and Supervision

The emergence of schools as institutions for the education of the young, and now in many cases for the education of adults has led to the emergence of the teacher as the person charged with the responsibility of educating the young and the not so young. Teaching is a distinct educational category or profession. For this reason, it has its mores and taboos. Things are done in certain ways and not in the others. In order to ensure that student teachers become better familiar with and employ teaching methods that lead to better understanding of lessons taught, the student teacher is usually sent on teaching practice that could exchange his/her suitability and proficiency in instructing the learners. It is during this exercise that the teacher in training is expected to sharpen his/her skills, helped by advice from his supervisor, who is usually a teacher sent from his teacher training college. This book: Teaching Practice and Supervision (Principles and Practical Approach) is an account of the activities of the teacher when he/she is on teaching practice and that of the supervisor who supervises him/her.
