TEACHERS' JOB PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ABUJA

The study focused on impact of principals¿ motivational strategies on teacher¿s job performance in public Senior Secondary Schools in Abuja Municipal Area Council. The study was guided by three research questions and three hypotheses. Descriptive Survey research design was used for the study. Total population of the study consisted of 1888 (23 principals and 1865 teachers) obtained from all the 23 public senior secondary schools in Abuja Municipal Area Council. The findings of the study revealed that teachers¿ recognition by principals; teachers¿ welfare as well as principals¿ effective communication had significant impact on teacher¿s job performance in public Secondary Schools in Abuja Municipal Area Council. Based on the result of the findings, it was recommended among others that FCT Secondary Education Board should organize seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences for the principals to enable them acquire the various basic skills and knowledge required for the application of basic motivational strategies for the improvement of teacher job performance in Nigerian secondary schools.
