Teacher capacity building for mainstreaminmg ESD concepts in schools

ESD is a an supremely vibrant and inexorably crucial concept whose time came like yesterday. It is however squalidly unfortunate that so many decades after the conception of the principle, not much has been done to get the concept to attract the needed vibe that may help occasion or generate massive changes in peoples¿ attitudes towards environmental consciousness and conservation. It is therefore incumbent upon the governments of the world and particularly the Kenyan government to live up to the precepts of the already expired Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) to mainstream the ESD tenets in all teaching and learning processes in all schools and at all levels. In this endeavor, there is no better place to begin than increasing the capacity of teachers at all levels to facilitate the processes. This must not be shelved for any reason. Teacher capacity building must therefore be appropriately expedited with all singularity of purpose and urgency. This can be astutely done through training and retraining of the teachers.
