Beschreibung
In the late fifteenth century, syphilis was perceived as a new plague in Central Europe. This study shows how the disease was conceptualized in literary form, before a sexualized, misogynist conception of the disease took hold in the mid-sixteenth century. It takes into account a range of German, French, and New Latin Renaissance texts, ranging from pamphlets and broadsides to dialogues and didactic poems.
