Sustainable Energy and Green Building

Sustainable development has been commonly defined as ¿development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs¿.This book highlights the importance of sustainable development and green building and presents three case studies, first on sustainable energy in urban development (SEUP) and a guide to application and incentives of green buildings, second is a study on the optimum energy saving using photovoltaic solar cells and solar collectors in green building, and third is on the impact of green building in reducing annual construction wasteTwo case studies on the green building have been presented in this book, the first was for the Netherland Embassy building in Amman, the first building in Jordan to receive the prestigious international LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certification for green building, which is rated from the US Green Building Council USGBC. The second case study was on the World Health Organization¿s building in Amman, which receive the golden LEED medal certificate.
