SUSTAINABLE ACTIONS APPLIED TO THE SUPERMARKET RETAIL SECTOR:

The aim of this study was to diagnose the sustainable actions practiced in the supermarket retail sector and propose improvements to the system. The methodology consisted of carrying out qualitative and exploratory bibliographical research, applying knowledge of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data, General Systems Theory (GST), reverse logistics and eco-efficiency in a supermarket located in the municipality of Pombal-PB, including on-site visits to the supermarket enterprise and a semi-structured interview with an employee from the management of the company studied. As a result, the lack of sustainable measures in the retail supermarket and the lack of interest on the part of business owners and employees in starting such actions were noted, due to a lack of knowledge on the subject, in which they blamed city management and the culture of the population as the main impediments to adopting better actions. Among the proposals for improvement, the following stand out: the characterization of companies using the triple bottom line and the application of ISO 14001 to improve the environmental management system.
