Sustainability Management in Healthcare Organizations

The society we live in today is not the same as it was 20 or 30 years ago. New generations have been forming in a much shorter time than in the past, transforming the entire social structure, including new consumer habits, greater connectivity and the abandonment to habits like television. Companies do not pass unscathed to these transformations and those who do not adapt are certainly doomed to failure. Healthcare businesses, as much as they do not occupy the vanguard in terms of management, cannot think any differently from a company that has profit as its purpose, because the world is living in a moment in which globalization affects the supply of materials, medicines, equipment and a hospital, operating uninterruptedly contributes significantly to the increase of environmental pressure on a planet already in crisis. The primary concept of Sustainability in Health is whether or not your hospital, clinic, etc. will be open for the next 100 or 200 years and this work brings with wealth of detail the case study of one of the first public hospitals in Latin America to develop a sustainability strategy involving its entire operation and reap the fruits of this work.
