Suicidal Thoughts and Behavior among Adolescents

In spite of efforts by countries across the world to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of endorsing the mental health and well-being of the population by the year 2030, suicidal behaviors remain a major public health concern. Suicidal behaviors entail the spectrum of thoughts that include suicidal ideation, plan, and attempt through fatal completion of suicide which is one of the foremost causes of premature mortality. Worldwide, about 800,000 people die from suicide every year and 79% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Among young people predominantly adolescents, suicide accounts for an estimated 6% of all deaths. This book tells about suicidal behaviors and their predictors among adolescents through extensively reviewed research studies. The findings will help inform policy decisions regarding the planning and implementation of interventions that will contribute to the mitigation of suicidal behaviors among adolescents.
