Stylistic features in the 2011 and 2012 final matches' commentaries in the UEFA Champions League

Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 2.0, , language: English, abstract: It is generally believed that the identification of the marked linguistic features of a given text or a series of texts, either spoken or written, literary or non-literary, and the description of the identified linguistic features in relation to their significances in the text with the aim of emphasising linguistic variations are the essentials of stylistics. The purpose of this work was to identify, analyse and describe the stylistic features in the 2011 and 2012 final matches¿ commentaries in the UEFA Champions League in order to ascertain the occupational linguistic variation. The analysis was basically stylistic using the tools of phonology, morphology, lexis and syntax. The use of the rhetorical feature ¿ figures of speech, also constituted an aspect of the data analysis.
