STUDY ON THE REARING OF Trichogramma sp.

Rice stem borer is one of the most destructive pests in Myanmar. In the research, rearing of the host, Corcyra cephalonica were studied for the Trichogramma sp. The oviposition rate of C. cephalonica throughout the life time is 63.7±10.4 eggs per female and the highest oviposition rate per female is 26.7±1.5 eggs at the second days.Three types of eggs parasitoids; Trichogramma sp., Telenomous sp. and Tetrastichus sp. were observed.The parasitization percent of Trichogramma sp. on eggs of C. cephalonica is 27% and emergence percent is 100% at the laboratory condition of 25±5ºC, 70±5 % RH. The total life duration peroids of Trichogramma sp. is 10.3±0.77 days. In rearing of Trichogramma sp., the resulting new generations were provided with the newly emerged eggs of C. cephalonica for the next generation. Therefore the eggs of C. cephalonica can be used for the rearing of Trichogramma sp. isolate from the parasitize egg of rice stem borer for the biological control.Rice stem borer is one of the most destructive pests in Myanmar.
