Student Teachers,Teachers' Professional Identity and Curriculum Change

This book is an exploration of student teachers experiences of teachers¿ professional identity within the context of curriculum change. It is the product of a qualitative exploratory case study of student teachers experiences. The book theorises that teachers professional identity is a fluid concept as such student teachers need an arsenal to fully function as teachers. The book discusses four major issues (the complicated demand teaching places on the student teacher, the curriculum or the sum total of what happens in schools, the relationship between content and pedagogy and finally professional development) that experiencing teachers¿ professional identity is all about. It also picks up on the nuanced and challenging nature of the teaching and learning process and ultimately provides a way forward for student teachers professional development. The book also recommends a thorough interrogation and restructuring of teacher education courses in most universities and admonished stake holders to take into consideration the challenges student teachers go through when experiencing teachers¿ professional identity to improve teacher education.
