Our lives are all about telling disease and illness stories. Each country has its own tradition in telling stories. If the health professional does not know this, misunderstandings can arise during diagnosis and treatment.Worldwide there are more and more immigrants, refugees and expats. That is why healthcare is becoming increasingly holistic. Non-Western clients and patients benefit from this.In this book stories about non-western diseases and illnesses include the African spider Anansi and Ajapa, the cheating turtle, the Indonesian girl Too-too-moo and the Surinamese forest spirits; also some story telling traditions such as the Arabic Hakawati and the Turkish Meddah.
