Strategies for The Development of Scientific Attitudes on Gambians

Whether science is to be a course that is appropriate for all pupil or a preparation for pupils specializing in science or the course to be responsive to the interests and ideas of young people or primarily to reflect the structure of the discipline or to be promoted as a body of knowledge or for inquiry and speculation on the part of the pupils. The importance of teaching science cannot be over emphasized. The above questions are always asked world over and the summary is that the aim of education through science are many, some of which have been enacted into policies in the Gambia as: Understanding scientific concepts. The development of cognitive and psychomotor skills, The ability to undertake inquires, Understanding the nature of the scientific antagonism, Understanding the relationship between science and society The development of a service personnel with these aims are equally reflected in the policy. If only to satisfy these policy statements, teaching and learning science by the Gambian children is worth it. It can therefore be argued that natural science arouse and satisfy the element of wonder in our natures. Also as an intellectual exercise, it disciplines our mind.
