STEM CELLS

Totipotent stem cells (zygotes) can give rise to a full viable organism and plueripotent stem cells (embryonic stem cells) can differentiate into any cell type within the human body. Stem cells have a unique capacity of not only to give rise to more stem cells (self-renewal) but also to generate differentiated progeny.This book is going to focus on the applications of stem cells in treatment of dentofacial defects & deformities and to propose possible advantages of stem cell therapy in enhancing orthodontic treatment. The tissue changes that are involved during orthodontic tooth movement such as at compression region, tension region, dental and pulp tissues, the rate of cementum & alveolar bone formation and the involvement of stem cells & their development towards osteoblasts and osteoclasts during orthodontic treatment have been discussed.
