Statutory Machinery and Trade Disputes Settlement

This book is a report of an empirical study on the use of statutory machinery (mediation, conciliation, arbitration and adjudication) in settling trade disputes in the oil and gas sector of the Nigerian economy. The oil and gas industry play major role in the development of Nigerian economy as the major source of revenue for the country. But, this important sector of the Nigerian economy is constantly grappling with the challenges of increasing cases of trade disputes between the workers¿ organization and the management of the oil and gas companies over labour contract administrations. As part of its regulatory role, the Nigerian state over the years has developed National Policy on Labour that created statutory machinery for managing and settling trade disputes both in the oil and gas industry and other sectors of the economy. However, there are mix feelings among the social partners in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria regarding the performance of these statutory machinery especially in relation to their efficiency and satisfaction of the parties in dispute.
