Most studies result in a large amount of raw data that must be reduced sufficiently so that the researcher can read conveniently and used it for further analysis. Clearly any research worker can not neglect the science of statistics, even though he might not have the experience to use statistical methods in all their details and ramifications. Classification and tabulation, as stated earlier, achieve this objective to some extent, but we have to go a step further and develop certain indices or measures to summarize the collected/classified data.
