Nowadays the importance of Traditional system of medicine (TSM) has been recognized all over the world. North east India with its rich florist diversity is also inhabited by a large number of tribes and they lead an intricate life totally dependent on forest plants. Considering the richness of plant diversity of the region, the actual documented information is too meagre living a yawning gap in so far as untapped knowledge is concerned, which needs to be bridge. It is imperative to study the traditional herbal medicine being practiced in the region and documented the same proper sustained utilization. Liver diseases remain as one of the serious health problems. The liver plays a central role in transforming and clearing chemicals and is susceptible to the toxicity from these agents. Certain medicinal agents when taken in overdoses and sometimes even when introduced within therapeutic ranges may injure the organ. However, we do not have satisfactory liver protective drugs in modern medical practice for serious liver disorders. Herbal drugs play a role in the management of various liver disorders most of which speed up the natural healing processes of the liver.
