Servo motors are specially designed machines that are also called as automatically controlled motors. Servo motors are primarily used in a feedback control systems that is used drive the load automatically. In other words, any motor that is designed to operate in a feedback control system for automated operation is called as a servomotor. A system which is designed with a servomotor for such purpose is called a -Servo Mechanism. Thus a servomotors converts controlled electrical signals(Control voltage/current) from the feedback control system into corresponding angular displacement of the shaft.Servo motors can be operated either in continuous mode or in start-stop mode depending on the load requirement. Many of the servomotors have advanced control systems with intelligent feedback system that may include programmable controllers like microprocessors, PLC, DSP etc. Usuallystepper motors have a very high speed of response.
