SPATIAL VARIATIONS OF NOISE POLLUTION IN INDIAN CITIES

This book presents a detailed study of Noise Pollution at Macro level for the city of Greater Mumbai and other cities in India. The main topics covered are methods of creation of adequate database, preparation of ¿isodecibel map''(this terms is introduced first time by author), comparison of noise with other physical and cultural attributes in Greater Mumbai and other cities. Some pertinent issues like cultural noise, unique to India and Greater Mumbai is dealt in a temporal frame. A community survey conducted helps to find out the impact of noise on resident population, the results of which are presented along with discussion from eminent environmentalist, journalist and doctors. The study is supported and illustrated with numerous diagrams, tables and maps drawn with GIS software. There are nine chapters covering the various aspects of noise. This study can be used as a representative for most south Asian cities.
