Soil and Water Management

The book covers the work done on soil and water management technologies in southern Africa. Most of the research was done in Malawi by several research institutions. This publication should be useful to readers interested in the impacts of soil and water management interventions on social livelihoods and agricultural development. Crops that were tested and/or documented in these studies include: common bean, banana, cabbage, and potato. Irrigation teachnologies such as motorized pumps, treadle pumps, and water cans are discussed including surface, seepage and pressurized irrigation systems. A paper on characterization of soil physical properties for sound soil management is also included.
