Sociolinguistic Implications of Sports-Register Equivalence

This study has been conducted to find out how football, language and translation can interact in the society. This quan-QUAL non-digital corpus-based study has been accompanied by different materials such as books, newspapers, and domain-specific dictionaries. The first phase of this research encompasses the frequencies of translation strategies applied by writers and translators in terms of football terminology in English and Persian in the realm of sports-registers. In the second phase, the researcher has made an inquiry into the ways football can impact the society with regard to the notion of equivalence. To achieve this goal, various football terms in English and Persian have been discussed separately through phenomenology. Accordingly, apt instruments such as interview, observation and content analysis were employed to arrive at legitimate data. The inter-rated codified results indicated that football has a huge influence on the way people behave verbally and non-verbally in the society.
