SOCIO-POLTICAL AND HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES IN EDUCATION

DACEducation always defines and nurture cultural patterns of the society. If an educational system has to be relevant to the society in which it operates, it needs to effectively respond to the demands of that society. Put differently, socio-political changes which color and shape social needs greatly influence educational systems. As a result, new system emerges. Obviously, this is a continuous process. To explain the influence of socio-political changes on education, we have taken up the Indian scenario as a case study. In the history of Indian education we find a lot of ups and downs. We can gladly and proudly state that India has a legendary history of education. Students from diverse backgrounds learn a standardized curriculum that effectively transforms diversity into homogeneity. Students learn a common knowledge base, a common culture, and a common sense of society¿s official priorities, and perhaps more importantly, they learn to locate their place within it.
