Smoking and its effects on health

The fight against smoking has become one of the main public health concerns and one of the main objectives of the cancer control plan. According to the World Health Organization, tobacco consumption is the second leading cause of death in the world, killing nearly 6 million people each year. More than 5 million of these are consumers or former users, and more than 600,000 non-smokers unintentionally exposed to smoke. Of the 1.1 billion people who currently smoke in the world (or one third of the world's population), nearly 80% live in low- and middle-income countries, where the burden of tobacco-related disease and death is the heaviest. Tobacco is a drug that millions of people cannot do without. Generally the consumption of tobacco or smoking leads to harmful effects on health. However, quitting smoking is no easy task for cigarette addicts. The law prohibiting its consumption has not yet come into force in our country.
