Sexual harassment of students at a public university in Mexico

Sexual harassment is a form of violence that mainly affects women, this problem is present in different contexts including the university environment. The victims receive cruel and degrading treatment by the aggressors, especially when they do not agree to their sexual requests, this situation creates a hostile environment in the classroom, which affects the teaching-learning process, causes serious consequences in the physical health and emotional well-being of those affected, interpersonal relationships are damaged, absenteeism and dropout rates increase and the academic performance of students decreases considerably.Sexual harassment is a type of violence considered a "hidden problem" because most of the victims of these cases do not report them, mainly because they are afraid of reprisals, because of the bad publicity that this situation could have for them or because of the unfair or inappropriate treatment they receive from the authorities of the institution, all this contributes to the underreporting of cases of sexual harassment and that the aggressors in most cases go unpunished.
